OUT OF THE PITS AND INTO THE LIVINGROOM

Its the same question over and over: Can a fighting dog be rehabilitated? Of course, those of us who know our breed so well, know the answer without even hesitating. But its those nasty ole politicians and law makers and of course those insane "haters" that just can't seem to see things for what they are. So we as lovers of this wonderful, have to constantly remind them. And this reminder comes to us from Kaboose. Confiscated by L.A.City Animal Services during a dog fighting raid, Pit Bulls and Pit mixes of all sizes and shapes were taken in to a local shelter in South Central Los Angeles. Eventually we were called in to take some and what gems they turned out to be. Kaboose never really showed the signs of a "fighting" dog but she was a little spicy for a short while. After spending time here at the rescue, we noticed that the big doe eyed Pit mix, was becoming increasing good around other dogs. So after years of getting passed up by adopters, this past year was Kaboose's year. From the depths of a Hell, she now spends her time as a full fledged couch potato watching episodes of "Pit Bulls & Parolees".

  1. That is WONDERFUL news!!! Pits make excellent pets, I have one named Molly who I have had since she was a pup and she is now 7. I also have 4 boys who grew up with her and she is their best friend. She wrestles with them, plays rope and catch with them and sleeps with them at night. She loves all my other pets which include, rats, ferrets, birds, cats and a Chihuahua. They are all her family and she would never hurt any of them. She is the Surrogate mom to all the foster kittens I bring home. She is an absolutely amazing dog.

  2. Tia Im sure you hear this all the time but you truly are an angel. I have had Pit bulls for 8 years and am a college student, I have wrote numerous papers and speeches trying to educate people. It it so shocking people are still so ignorant when it comes to Pit Bulls.

  3. i just wish you were able to get your hands on the monster sized Italian Mastiff puppy that just moved into my building who hates all humans but his parents. The refuse to get him fixed and are praising him for trying to kill me through the fence. And letting him run around common areas including my backdoor. The landlord refuses to do anything but force me to get rental insurance because of Marley who hates dogs but loves humans and is a pitbull, god forbid.

To say that they are setting up this little guy for failure is an understatement!!!! This story supports what I spent all day talking to the neighbors and landlord about. It's never the do, but the individual on the other end of that leash!

But this story is another example that it's not the dog, but the owners and guardians who decide how our furry friends should behave. Can't fault the animal when the owner is the cause of the behavior.

SO HAPPY FOR KABOOSE! and he doesn't even try to take over the whole couch! now if my knuckleheads could learn that i would be set!

  6. This is such another great story up date. I love the show but most of all I love the dogs and the people who are in it. I love that another human (besides myself) can see good in individuals and guide them to the right direction. Your an awesome individual, Tia. Only down fall is I hate every shows makes me break down and cry. :) Thank you.

Twin boys and me...love you all.

  7. Hi Tia,
I have an adorable full brindle 55 lb pit boy named C-dog er, Colin. He is a wonderful boy, where did he come from? A bait pen. I Have 7 year old twins,a 15 year old and C man? He lives with 5 other dogs including two pit pups we just took in from yet another rescue. (Everything here is from abuse/neglect). It took a lot of work but frankly he is probably the best boy I have ever known. His tolerance is amazing and you should see how gently he plays with the pups. God speed Tia...you are amazing!

  9. I just recently started watching your show..and now i'm addicted. I love what you do ..and i wish I could do the same. I have a 9yr old pit bull boy..who looks like the one in this pic. My husband & I have had him since he was able to leave his mama. Unfortunatly he doesn't like other dogs but he loves cats & kids. (especially little kittens which is the cutest thing to see) I want to find a way to make him comfortable around other dogs, but with the reputation these poor babies carry, I dont want to put him in the position for someone to say he is a bad dog..when he is the sweetest things you would ever lay eyes on. So because of this I dont bring him places where there will be other dogs. If you have any advice I would love it. On another note I wish you all the best and I hope one day I can come take your course on how to start a rescue.

  12. It's good to see that people are beggining to step up for these poor dogs and try to better the breed. Many people forget that other breeds have been in the "Dangerous Dog" spotlight. In the 19th century it was the Bloodhound, because they were used to hunt down and viciously maul escaped slaves and prisoners. But I love all dogs breed, especially the big ones, the ones people hate and the ones with tons of jowels! Lol I think jowls are so cute.
